It is
specifically designed for students who have orthopedic disabilities. |
|
It is
appropriate for use with a multitude of different types of orthopedic
disabilities. |
|
It is
appropriate for use with students from 3 through 21 years of age. |
|
It
allows for the deletion of test items, if they are inappropriate for a
particular student. |
|
It allows for
performance from a sitting or standing position. |
|
It includes a
wheelchair mobility test section. |
|
It
allows for flexibility in data gathering methods. |
|
It includes all of the motor skill performance areas that relate to
determining a student's
strengths and weaknesses in terms of appropriate activity planning.
|
Description of the Test
This test measures the functional motor skill abilities of
students with orthopedic disabilities. It
is divided into the following sections:
1.
The WHEELCHAIR MOBILITY SECTION
2.
The BODY AWARENESS SECTION.
3.
The UNILATERAL/BILATERAL MOTOR SKILLS SECTION
4.
The UPPER-LIMB COORDINATION SECTION
5.
The LOWER-LIMB COORDINATION SECTION
| Each
sub-test item deemed appropriate for the nature of the student's
specific disability requires a motor skill response and scoring occurs
immediately following the response. |
|
Some of
the test items are purely observational in nature and require only a check
mark; while others require measurements with respect to time, accuracy
and/or distance. |
|
All
of the test items include a comment area to record the quality of movement
observed. |
|
When a
specific test item should be deleted due to its inappropriateness for a
student with a specific disability, instructions are given on the score
sheet and in the specific directions for administering the test. |
|
Scoring
procedures used by the test administrator are easily understood and quickly
identifiable on the score sheet. |
|
The total
estimated time needed for administration of the KALMS (R) is approximately
45 minutes, including set up time. These
time constraints will vary with the severity of the student's
disability and the ability of the student to cognitively understand the
directions for performance of any sub-test item. |
